In 1927, it looked as though Waldoboro, Maine might be getting some automobile traffic from folks headed north up US Route 1. It seemed like a good idea to build a couple of cabins to see if we could find any weary travelers looking for a clean, inexpensive place to stay the night.
Now, ninety years later, we are very pleased to have served over a million people in our motel and diner. We have evolved from three cabins our first year, with no diner, to our present 18 cabins and rooms and a 104-seat diner that has become a national icon, featured in magazines and on television shows around the world.
In 1998, we added a small gift shop beside the diner and down the hill from the motel. In it, we offered a wide variety of items from Maine and New England, including our famous "I'm a Moody Person" shirts. On one wall of the diner we have photographs of people wearing our shirts in every corner of the globe.
Please explore our website and discover what makes Moody's Diner and Motel so special. And do come and visit us whenever you're in midcoast Maine. It is truly one of the most beautiful places on earth, and we are fortunate to be able to live and work here.
