The above photos show, from top, our original two cabins behind the small restaurant on old US Route 1, the new diner on the redirected Route 1, and the diner as it was remodeled in 1948.

In 1927, it looked as though Waldoboro, Maine might be getting some automobile traffic from folks headed north up US Route 1. It seemed like a good idea to build a couple of cabins to see if we could find any weary travelers looking for a clean, inexpensive place to stay the night.

Now, seventy-five years later, we are very pleased to have served over a million people in our motel and diner. We have evolved from three cabins our first year, with no diner, to our present 18 cabins and rooms and a 104 seat diner that has become a national icon, featured in magazines and on television shows around the world.

In 1998, we added a small gift shop beside the diner and down the hill from the motel. In it, we offer a wide variety of items from Maine and New England, including our famous "I'm a Moody Person" shirt. On one wall of the diner we have photographs of people wearing our shirts in every corner of the globe.

Please explore our Web site and discover what makes Moody's Diner, Cabins and Gift Shop so special. And do come and visit us whenever you're in midcoast Maine. It is truly one of the most beautiful places on earth, and we are fortunate to be able to live and work here. All the photos on our site are taken in or around Waldoboro and Friendship, Maine.
